VRQ414 - Principles and practices of managing a hazardous waste storage facility.


This optional unit falls in the Medium risk tier of the CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme. 


Specially designed for those involved in storing either catalytic converters or electrical insulation oil


The initial training course covers a range of aspects from hazardous waste acceptance and rejection of loads, segregation and storage of hazardous waste, returns, emissions, drainage and containment, transportation, records and much more! 


On completion of the 5 mandatory units and optional unit VRQ414, the individual can act as the technically competent manager (TCM) of the below site types: 


• Storage of electrical insulating oil / Storage of catalytic converters

• Civic amenity (CA) sites / Household waste recycling centres (HWRC) – Sites accepintg Hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste.

  • SR2022No5 (Note this permit includes asbestos, sites not accepting asbestos require optional unit VRQ414). If you intend on accepting asbestos, please contact us for further guidance.
  • SR2022No6 (You require optional unit VRQ414 for this permit, which covers both hazardous and non-hazardous waste)



If you're applying for a bespoke permit, we advise you speak with the relevant regulator (EA/NRW) or alternatively contact the Centre or your consultant. 


Please note this award is suitable as competence in England and Wales. Those in Northern Ireland and Scotland will need to check with NIEA/SEPA prior to enrolment.
