Click the arrow in any of the blue circles below, to access information about the qualification process, costs and other useful information.
Is this qualification suitable for me?
This qualification suits operatives working in collections, waste transfer and treatment facilities, sustainability officers, charity shop or HWRC supervisors!
The mandatory units within the award cover health and safety, sustainability, planning and allocating work for team members, monitoring the team, and completion of tasks, whereas the optional unit group can be tailored to the individual and here their is a general pathway looking at processing operations, site security, monitoring and control of resources, customer relations, promotion of products or services to name but a few. Or there is a re-use pathway suitable for those working in charity shops or similar environments which covers similar topics tailored to the work environment.
The CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 3 Diploma for Sustainable Recycling Activities (Supervisory) is achieved through assessment in the work environment; the process requires the Learner to demonstrate they have the required knowledge and skills to supervise teams of people at a waste facility.
The qualification process would include several visits by one of our competent Assessors.
The first assessment visit will include an induction to explain the process, as well as the centre and awarding organisation’s policies, practices, and procedures.
Delegates need to complete all the required units to achieve this qualification.
This must include the below 6 Mandatory units:
Mandatory Units:
• Set objectives and provide support for team members (MSCB5) – Level 3
• Plan, allocate and monitor work of a team (MSCD5) – Level 3
• Conduct a health and safety risk assessment of the workplace (HSS6) – Level 3
• Develop and implement a risk assessment plan in own area of responsibility (MSCE6) – Level 4
• Promote sustainability and environmental good practice in the recycling industry (RA2.2) – Level 3
• Develop personal performance (RA2.3) – Level 2
In addition to the mandatory units, Delegates must choose which pathway they will complete which includes additional units relevant to their chosen activity. Here the Delegate can choose from either the general pathway or the reuse pathway.
Those selecting the general pathway must complete a further 2 units from this general group:
Optional Unit Group 1: General Pathway
• Manage the collection of recyclables and other materials (RA3418) – Level 4
• Control maintenance and other engineering operations for recycling activities (RA3424) – Level 4

• Contribute to the generation and retention of recycling business (RA346) – Level 3
• Plan and maintain transport operations for recycling activities (RA347) – Level 3

If you choose this Pathway, you must complete both units below.
• Manage the collection of recyclables and other materials (RA3418) – Level 4
• Control maintenance and other engineering operations for recycling activities (RA3424) – Level 4
• Control activities for the processing and storage of recyclables and other materials (RA3432) – Level 3
• Contribute to the generation and retention of recycling business (RA346) – Level 3

• Supervise the receipt, storage or dispatch of goods (OCR6) – Level 3
• Sort goods and materials for recycling or disposal in logistics operations (OCR7) – Level 2
• Audit stock levels and stock inventories in a retail environment (B.15) – Level 3

• Maintain the availability of goods on display in a retail environment to promote sales (C.13) – Level 3
• Monitor and support secure payment point use during trading hours (E.21) – Level 3
• Monitor and solve customer service problems (ICSC5) – Level 3
• Organise the delivery of reliable customer service (ICSB10) – Level 3
Those selecting the reuse pathways must then select a further two units from either optional reuse group. However, if you select unit RA3418 or RA3424 then you are only required to do one unit. If you choose unit RA348, combined with any of the following units, MSCD3a, OCR7, or E.21. Then you will need to complete one more unit from either optional group.
The process of achieving this award varies depending on the units selected; some units will require the Delegate to answer a question paper, and some require you to demonstrate your ability and understanding of a subject physically, but in the main, you will find most units are split into a question paper for half of the unit and physical performance for the other half to demonstrate your knowledge and skills fully.
This may also require them to gather documents relevant to their role such as risk assessments, environmental procedures, check sheets, waste transfer notes, consignment notes, security procedures, allocation of work, or planning of tasks to include email communications and other such documents!
On completion, the Centre will claim your certificate, which will be scanned, and a copy sent in advance of the original.
