  • Is this qualification suitable for me?

    This qualification is ideal for people that will be undertaking supervisor or team leader roles within the waste and resource management industry. It is a flexible qualification that can be tailored to meet the requirements of specific job roles in the sector or within a particular organisation – these job roles include: 


    • Refuse collection supervisor 
    • Transfer station supervisor 
    • Sustainability officer 
    • Treatment supervisor 
    • Landfill supervisor 
    • Materials recycling facility supervisor

    This qualification is open entry. This means that learners interested in undertaking the CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 3 Diploma for Waste Supervisor do not require any other qualifications or levels of attainment to take this qualification.

  • Qualification Process

    This CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 3 Diploma for Waste Supervisor is assessed in the work environment, the process requires the Learner to demonstrate he or she has the required knowledge and skills to manage a permitted waste management facility.


    The qualification process would include a number of visits by one of our competent Assessors. 


    The first assessment visit will include an induction, to explain the process, as well as the Centre and awarding organisation’s policies, practices and procedures. 


    Each Learner will need to complete the 5 mandatory units in Group A and any 2 units from Group B and any 3 units from Group C (ensuring that at least 2 of these are at Level 3 or above), making the award 10 units in total:


    Mandatory Units:


    • Contribute to the management of the environmental impact of work (WS04)
    • Supervise the work of others (WS03) 
    • Supervise health and safety in the working environment for waste management activities (WS02) 
    • Ensure that staff conform to productive and efficient working practices (WS01)
    • Provide leadership in area of responsibility (WS05) 

    Optional Unit Group B  


    The learner must complete 2 of the units from the following group: 


    • Generate and retain waste and resource management business (WM10) 
    • Manual handling, lifting and moving of loads in a waste environment (WO38)
    • Participate in meetings (MSCD12) 
    • Manage own professional development within an organisation (MSCA2)
    • Support learning and development within own area of responsibility (MSCD7)
    • Plan allocate and monitor work of a team (MSCD5)
    • Oversee waste process operations (WO25)
    • Validation of waste (WO10) 
    • Inspection of vehicles used in waste management facilities (WO15)
    • Maintain the condition of waste process equipment (WO26)
    • Control the risk from vehicle and plant movements on waste management facilities (WO7)
    • Contribute to maintaining sustainable development and environmental good practice at work (WO33)
    • Conduct environmental monitoring on a waste management facility (WO23)
    • Maintain the security of waste management facilities (WO13) 
    • Acceptance of waste (WO11) 
    • Contribute to the sustainability, maintenance and preservation of the environment (WO29)
    • Exchange responsibility for control of waste processing operations (WO27)
    • Contribute to the provision of customer service in a waste environment (WM67) 
    • Support customer service improvements (ISCD2) 

    Optional Unit Group C 


    The learner must complete 3 units from the following group, ensuring 2 of the units are Level 3 or above: 


    • Conform to general workplace environmental requirements - Level 2 (WB3Q)
    • Direct vehicle movements on site - Level 2 (WB8Q) 
    • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace - Level 2 (CS642) 
    • Control the sale of stocked material or products - Level 2 (WB10Q)
    • Control maintenance and other engineering operations - Level 4 (WM30) 
    • Manage the transfer of outputs and disposal of residues from remediation of contamination land - Level 3 (WM18)
    • Manage customer care programs to improve waste management services - Level 3 (WM28)
    • Control work activities on a waste management facility - Level 3 (WM12)
    • Maintain vehicle crew compliance with operational requirements - Level 3 (WB9Q)
    • Manage the traffic office - Level 3 (LOG9)
    • Make effective decisions - Level 3 (MSCE10)
    • Set objectives and provide support for team members - Level 3 (MSCB5)
    • Operate the Weighbridge - Level 3 (WB4Q) 
    • Work with others to improve customer service - Level 3 (ICSD8)
    • Manage and maintain effective systems for responding to emergencies - Level 4 (WM24) 
    • Review the quality of customer service - Level 4 (ICSB14) 
    • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements - Level 4 (MSCB8)
    • Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility - Level 4 (MSCD6)
    • Implement change in own area of responsibility - Level 4 (MSCC6)
    • Identify and evaluate sustainable resources in a waste environment - Level 4 (WM61) 
    • Manage a budget for own area or activity of work - Level 5 (MSCE1)
    • Work productively with colleagues and stakeholders - Level 5 (MSCD2)
    • Recruit staff in own area of responsibility - Level 5 (MSCD3a)
    • Plan an organisation’s workforce - Level 7 (MSCD4) 

    As part of the process, you will be required to answer a minimum 10 question papers (One for each unit), you will also need to explain documents and procedures relevant to your role such as risk assessments, environmental procedures, check sheets, and other operational requirements. 


    You will also need to possibly gather documents relevant your role such as near miss reports, mobile plant defect reports other such documents, which again you will explain to your Assessor. 


    Don’t worry, you will plan each assessment visit with your Assessor to allow time to complete the work required! 


    When your Assessor arrives on site, he or she will be looking to observe you carrying out your daily duties, asking questions about the tasks you carry out, looking at the documentation and getting you to explain the various processes and procedures. 


    On completion, the Centre will claim your certificate, which will be scanned, and a copy sent in advance of the original certificate. 

  • Qualification Cost's

    CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 3 Diploma for Waste Supervisor (WSUP3)


    £1799.00 + VAT Per Learner


    Includes:

    • Registration for the appropriate ‘CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 3 Qualification’. 
    • 3 Assessment visits, Including over 15 hours of assessment.
    • All assessor time, travel and associated expenses.
    • E-Portfolio to allow you to complete your knowledge questions, upload evidence, track progress, as well as providing access to hundreds of pieces of guidance and knowledge videos.

    Additional Charges:


    £600 + VAT - Per additional assessment visit, this is typically required where the assessor has confirmed an assessment within 7 days, and then turns up on site and the learner has either done nothing or the assessment can’t go ahead as the learner has meetings or other work which takes priority over the assessment. 


    However, to date we have never charged a client for an extra assessment visit which is down to the rigorous planning and support we provide our learners.

    Your E-Portfolio


    Your portfolio will be located online, which you can access through any website browser via a laptop, computer or mobile device.


    Here you can access your knowledge question papers, completing them online and submitting them for marking, with one simple click of a button, which will also notify your Assessor automatically!  We also provide access to a huge archive of guidance documents on a range of health, safety, waste and environmental subjects.


    This will not only help you research and learn in order to achieve the award, but it’s also the ideal on-site reference tool, when carrying out your daily duties.

  • Do I need access to an operational facility?

    Yes, you need access to an operational facility with the required resource, as the assessment phase is completed in the working environment. 


    Operational facility examples: metal recycling sites, transfer stations, landfills, or sites involved in deposit for recovery. 


    Resource examples: people/staff, vehicles, mobile plant, procedures, assessments, products, or materials.

  • Can you provide me with training?

    Yes, we can arrange for one of our trainers to deliver an underpinning knowledge course. 


    Designed to deliver knowledge in a range of areas, prior to your allocated assessor taking over and starting the assessment phase. 


    This can speed up the completion time frame as well as ensuring you have a good solid foundation of knowledge. 

  • How long does it take to complete?

    These qualifications are led by the Learner, with support from their Assessor. 


    It’s hard to give an accurate time frame, as it will depend on a range of factors, such as completing work set by their Assessor, existing knowledge and experience, and workload to name but a few. 


    We would however expect a learner to complete this qualification in around 6 to 8 months. 


  • Do I need any other qualifications?

    No, this qualification is open entry which means you don't need to have achieved any other qualification.
