Is this qualification suitable for me?
This qualification is suitable for new and existing drivers involved in transporting waste.
The mandatory units within the award cover customer service, communication and the more managerial/supervisory aspects, whereas the optional unit group can be tailored to the individual looking at the loading of vehicles depending on the types of waste you deal with, such as hazardous, non-hazardous or inert waste or a range of those wastes, as well as additional pathways for those involved in other duties.
The CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 2 Certificate for Sustainable Waste Management Operative (Waste Collection Driver) is achieved through assessment in the work environment, the process requires the Learner to demonstrate they have the required knowledge and skills to transport waste compliantly.
The qualification process would include several visits by one of our competent Assessors.
The first assessment visit will include an induction, to explain the process, as well as the centre and awarding organisation’s policies, practices and procedures.
Delegates need to complete 10 units in total to achieve this qualification.
This must include the below 7 Mandatory units:

When the assessor arrives on site, they will be looking to observe the learner carrying out their daily duties, asking questions about the tasks they carry out, looking at the documentation and getting them to explain the various processes and procedures.
The process of achieving this award varies depending on the units selected; some units will require the Delegate to answer a question paper, and some require you to demonstrate your ability and understanding of a subject physically, but in the main, you will find most units are split into a question paper for half of the unit and physical performance for the other half to demonstrate your knowledge and skills fully.
This may also require them to gather documents relevant to their role, such as risk assessments, environmental procedures, check sheets, waste transfer notes, consignment notes, defect records and other such documents!
On completion, the Centre will claim their certificate, which will be scanned, and a copy sent in advance of the original.
